Standalone laundry renovations

A laundry doesn't need to be part of a bigger job to be worth doing properly. Standalone kitchen, bathroom or laundry renovations are common across the Inner West — we scope them the same way as whole-home projects, with a detailed quote, a written program and the same trades.

One thing to know upfront: our minimum project size is generally a full room renovation. We don't take on small handyman or maintenance work, so a laundry reno with us means a proper strip-out and rebuild of the room, not a tap swap.

Combining the bathroom and laundry in a terrace or cottage

In the Inner West's narrow cottages and terraces, the bathroom and laundry often sit side by side in two cramped rooms. Merging the two wet areas into one planned room usually buys enough space for a proper walk-in shower and a full-width vanity, with the washer and dryer stacked behind a joinery door.

Merging the two into one properly planned wet area is almost always the right call in these floorplans — one waterproofing zone, one set of plumbing runs, and a room that works harder than the two it replaced.

Joinery, stacked appliances and storage

A good laundry is mostly joinery. Stacked washer and dryer behind a joinery door, a bench over front-loaders, tall storage for brooms and linen, and a proper sink with somewhere to dry things — planned around how your household actually uses the room.

Our joinery is made to measure for the space rather than flat-packed to roughly fit, which matters in laundries more than anywhere: these rooms are never square, and every centimetre counts.

Waterproofing, plumbing and ventilation

A laundry is a wet area, and we treat it like one. When a laundry is renovated on its own or combined with a bathroom, we handle the plumbing re-route, the ventilation and the waterproofing as one scope — compliant waterproofing, licensed plumbing, and ventilation designed in rather than left to an open window.

In older homes that means planning plumbing routes carefully around old subfloors, and re-levelling floors before tiling where the original stumps have moved.

Moving the laundry out of the back hallway as part of an extension

Plenty of Inner West homes have a laundry that is really a hallway cupboard with a tap. When the home is being extended anyway, relocating the laundry into the new footprint — a proper room with storage, bench space and daylight — is one of the highest-value moves in the whole project.

If you're planning a rear or ground-floor extension, it's worth talking about the laundry at the same time: the plumbing is already being reworked, and the marginal cost of doing both together is far lower than two separate projects.

Laundry renovations across the western suburbs: Kingsville, Spotswood, Yarraville, Footscray, Hobsons Bay

We deliver kitchens, bathrooms, laundries and whole-home renovations end-to-end across the Inner West. The housing stock shapes the brief: Seddon's single-storey Victorian workers' cottages and Edwardian terraces usually mean combining wet areas, while in Yarraville — where 71.7% of dwellings are separate houses — standalone laundry rooms are more common.

Recent laundry work includes a marble laundry and bathroom combination, a brass-detail laundry and a white tile and brass laundry across Kingsville, Spotswood and Hobsons Bay — see the suburb pages for the detail.
