Our core patch is Melbourne's inner west — Newport, Williamstown, Yarraville, Spotswood, Kingsville, Seddon and Footscray — where narrow rear yards, heritage overlays and neighbouring boundary walls shape what a pergola can be. We also build through the inner north, the eastern suburbs and along the bay.

Exposure changes the specification more than most people expect. A bayside block in Williamstown or Altona gets salt-laden wind, so we specify hot-dip galvanised or powder-coated steel posts and stainless fixings rather than standard hardware. An inland courtyard in Yarraville or Kingsville is sheltered but often north-facing and baking, which pushes towards a louvre or insulated roof you can close down in February. Heritage streets usually want painted timber posts and a fine batten profile so the structure sits quietly behind the original house.

Practically, that means we quote per site rather than per catalogue. On the first visit we look at aspect, prevailing wind, boundary setbacks, overshadowing to the neighbour, and how the pergola will flash back into the existing roof line — then recommend the material and roof type that suits that address.
